For Abhishek Bachchan, constant comparisons with dad Amitabh are an "honour" and not a problem. But as he gears up for his television debut with game show National Bingo Night, he says he is not competing in any way with Bachchan senior, who hosted the popular Kaun Banega Crorepati TV show in 2000.
"If you are not going to compare me to him (Amitabh), whom are you going to compare me to? I have never had a problem being compared to him and, like I said, who doesn’t want to be compared to Amitabh Bachchan? He is the best we have and the best that we ever will have. It’s a matter of great honour for me," said Abhishek.
The 33-year-old has faced comparisons with his father ever since his Bollywood debut with Refugee a decade ago. Now he says he doesn’t want to be weighed on the same scale.
"He (Amitabh) has been on TV and he created history on the medium. Do I hope to be able to outdo that? No, because that’s not possible. Nobody is going to be a better actor than him, nobody is going to be able to make a bigger mark than him on Indian cinema and on world cinema and the same goes for TV. Do I have aspirations of outdoing him? No, I don’t compete with my father," he said.

Vidya Balan, who plays Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in “Paa”, was so impressed by Abhishek’s caring behaviour towards his father during the shooting that she confesses she would like to have a son like Abhishek in real life.
“I would prefer a son like Abhishek. I have seen him with his father on the sets… he was so nice to his father that I was touched,” Vidya told reporters here Saturday.
Director R. Balakrishnan’s “Paa” is an emotional story of a father-son relationship and Amitabh will be seen as Abhishek’s 13-year-old son Auro who is suffering from a rare disease progeria, that accelerates ageing. The film releases Dec 4.
“The film is all about Auro and all through the film there is a certain sensibility about Auro, but no sympathy is shown towards the 13-year-old progeric child in the film,” said Vidya.
When the director approached her for the role, she wasn’t sure about playing the mother of a progeric child. “Initially, I wondered how to do the role as I didn’t have that motherly instinct. But while working on the film I realised what motherhood is,” said Vidya.

Abhishek also read out a beautiful poem ‘Agnipath’ written by his grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan along with a message from his actor father Amitabh Bachchan.
He visited some of the locations where the Kargil war was fought 10 years back. His entire journey will be shown on NDTV’s special show "Jai Jawan" Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday 11.30 a.m. and 9.30 p.m.

Two caravans used in the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s multilingual movie Ravan, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, in Ooty have been seized for having forged vehicle documents, police said on Tuesday. The two caravans had the same registration number. “An investigation led to findings of fraud in the use of forged vehicle IDs and tax evasion, which in turn led to seizure of four vehicles during the last week,” said a police official. According to police, the vehicles seized in Ooty have been valued at Rs 12 million. Both Abhishek and Aishwarya are said to have used the vehicles during the shooting.
The shooting of Ravan has been shifted to another hill station, Hogenekkal (some 300 km southwest from Chennai). The police official said he feared the “racket may be much bigger since all top stars use high-priced caravans”. Police teams have left for Mumbai and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu to look for other similar vehicles. Sources close to Ratnam said: “To our knowledge only two vehicles that were being operated for us have been seized. The suppliers who lent logistical support to our outdoor units should be blamed.
Our shooting is in progress without any glitches.”Our office has taken up the issue with the suppliers,” the source added. Ravan is being made in Hindi and Tamil. It also stars Tamil actors Vikram and Karthik. Since shooting began last year, minor problems have dogged the venture, including Ratnam being laid down with a mild heart problem, and cinematographer Manikandan handing over the work to another celebrated cameraman Santosh Sivan.
