Regional cinema keeps me in a happy space: Sonali Kulkarni

“I talk performance and nothing else. Last few years have been a little more with regional cinema. It makes me proud that all the films have done well. So, it is not like I am not focused on my career. The choices have been scattered but I am enjoying my journey,” Sonali told PTI on the sidelines of the Lakme Fashion Week.

For the past few years, Sonali Kulkarni has been making her presence felt in the regional cinema and the actress says she is enjoying her time doing non-Hindi films.

The 40-year-old actress, who made her debut in showbiz with vernacular cinema before trying her luck in Bollywood, said when it comes to her career she has always gambled, whether it was playing a tree in her debut film “Cheluvi” directed by Girish Karnad or playing mother to Hrithik Roshan’s character in “Mission Kashmir”.

“I have always gambled when it comes to my career. I feel pretty liberates as an actor it gives me huge amount of freedom.

The actress’ 2014 Marathi film “Dr Prakash Baba Amte” was a biopic on the lives of Prakash Baba Amte, the son of the great social worker Baba Amte, and his wife Mandakini Amte. Sonali said that she is very happy that the Hindi version of the film will soon release in theatres all over India.

I am very happy that the film was such a roaring success. It was one of the top grossers in Marathi and got the highest rating till date for a TV premiere. My role in the film was highly praised and it gave me a huge amount of satisfaction. So, I am waiting for the Hindi version to release soon,” she said.

The “Singham” actress is also actively involved in theatre work and has been busy producing and starring plays. She has even bagged a great role in a Hindi film but did not divulge much details about it.
