Himesh: I Will Prove Myself As An Actor

Thursday Oct 8, 2009

Himesh Reshammiya1

He has shed his famous cap, got rid of the nasal twang in his voice and now wants to prove to the world with his film “Radio” that he’s a good actor. Himesh Reshammiya, who has sung and composed numerous hit songs, says acting is his only passion at the moment.

“Right now my passion is acting because I want to prove myself. Even after doing two films, one of which was such a big hit (’Aap Kaa Surroor’), a lot of people still say ‘why is he getting into acting when he has such a successful career in music?’,” Himesh told IANS in an interview.

“People had same perception when I turned singer from composer. So I have to prove it yet again that I can do it and do it well…even though I have an unconventional face,” he said.

Himesh’s “Karzzz” sank without a trace at the box office and he says everyone except his parents criticised him for facing the camera.

“A lot of people in my own family feel that I shouldn’t have got into acting. Not my parents, but my uncles and aunts feel this way. But I know I have it in me and I will prove it,” Himesh said.

The composer-singer-actor was in the capital at the Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM studios to promote his forthcoming film “Radio”.

From light classical music to film songs and from ghazals to bhajans and pop, she has sung a variety of numbers. Karisma Kapoor: I would like to wish Lataji a very happy birthday. The songs that she has sung for my grandfather don’t need any explanations. I just want to ask her: how does she still sing so melodiously even at this age?

Prasoon Joshi: My best wishes to Lataji on her birthday. I feel so fortunate that my entry in Bollywood was marked by a song sung by her. I wrote my first song for her, which was the title track of “Lajja”. It was totally a dream come true. Then my luck again favoured me when I wrote “Luka chhupi” for her in the film “Rang De Basanti”. I feel extremely humbled to write songs for someone as great as her.

Kunal Kohli: What can one say about a living legend like Lataji and who am I to say something? I don’t think a word has been created to describe her and her contribution to Hindi film music. My best wishes to her for a long and healthy life.

Mohit Chauhan: I give my heartiest congratulations to the melody queen. I wish more and more years added to her life. Since childhood I have been listening to her songs and she is still my favourite singer.

Kailash Kher: She is a goddess in human form. Whatever she has achieved till now and the way she sings even till today is just miraculous. A normal person can’t do that. “My mother doesn’t like my friendship with Gauthami Madam. She is angry with me because of this count and avoids speaking to me. I’m not bothered about that,” she said.

Shruti, who sung popular number “Nenjukkul Peithidum…” in “Vaaranam Aayiram” and composed music for her father’s forthcoming bilingual film “Unnaipol Oruvan”, says her father is her biggest support in life.
