It seems the talented actress Radhika Apte has apparently bagged Madhur Bhandarkar’s ambitious next film titled, Main, Indu. The movie — which will be set in the Emergency Era (June 25, 1975 to March, 21 1977) — will apparently revolve around the life of a poetess who rebels against the system.

If sources are to be believed, Anushka Sharma was one of the front runners to play the lead, but ultimately it was Radhika who pipped her to bag the role.

“Radhika is almost on board to play the lead in Madhur’s film. She is a brilliant actress and the makers feel she will be able to do justice to the role. She will be essaying the role of the protagonist in this women-oriented drama,” informed a source.

While the film has the name Indu in its title, it is believed that the movie has not direct reference to the late Indira Gandhi. Madhur has reportedly already started his research by meeting senior political leaders who saw the dark days of Emergency up close and personal. The National Award-winning director also met Subramanian Swamy recently, and is believed to have exchanged notes on Emergency with him.

We tried reaching Radhika for a comment, but the actress didn’t respond to our calls or text messages.
